Star-Lord’s got problems…to find out what they are, it would be easier to read this issue than for me to summarize ’em.
The main thing you need to know is that Star-Lord, aka Peter Quill, is stuck on Earth and he has got nothing to do, or anyone to be with. Zdarsky is an old hand at comics writing, balancing comedy and driving the plot easily as we get to feel for the arrogant pretty boy half-alien. There is a distinctive voice to who Quill is and Zdarsky makes sure to give reasons as to why we should even bother with him.
The real hero of this story is Kris Anka, who matches Zdarsky’s humorous tone (also with some considerable help from colorist Matt Wilson) and then ramps it up to 11 with great layouts and beautiful action sequences. When Logan (the old man version) goes berserk, it is a sight to behold.
This is a solid creative team behind a character who should not work without his regular crew, but they seem to have a plan and I am totally along for the ride.
Four Thwips for Abigail Brand’s favorite pain in the ass.
