Thwip! Watch – Arrow – S05E11 – “Second Chances”

Thwip! Watch is all about what goes on our screens, namely TV. Whether CW or Fox or NBC or what-have-you, you can be sure that we here at Thwip! have been watching it. Today we are going to talk about Arrow.

While I talked previously about how last week’s episode was kind of too much of a break from the main story that felt like it was dragging the season, this one was a pretty good episode.

The reason being is that the story of Canary and Oliver had good parallels and Stephen Amell’s repentant mentor persona worked out well for this episode. The story is nothing special, but it was quite serviceable and worked on all the basic levels – especially with Canary “failing” her final test.

Mr. Terrific and Wild Dog are a good goofy pair that helps to provide comic relief, while still keeping the story going (’cause otherwise we aren’t really getting much time to develop their characters since Oliver hogs up all the screen time).

It was a solid episode that was not spectacular but was just really decently told.

Though now we need to turn back to the main story (which I kind of forgot what it was now, so now we gotta step it up and return us to normality).

Random thoughts about the episode:

I really like Lexa Doig’s accent, it does feel like what a young(ish?) Arab woman would have (though not necessarily, true).

Also, I miss Yao Fei, he might never have managed to be the Perfect Accomplished Physician on the show, but he always be for me (plus for being the worst Ryu ever, haha).

I think Arrow’s bow is getting bigger every time he whips it out.

I kind of love Canary’s real name (a bit too on the nose, but I still loved it).

Finally, damn I want a burger, anyone willing to sponsor a burger or two for my recaps? Doesn’t have to be anything fancy (but fries are a necessity).
