Thwip! Watch is all about what goes on our screens, namely TV. Whether CW or Fox or NBC or what-have-you, you can be sure that we here at Thwip! have been watching it. Today we are going to talk about Marvel’s Iron Fist.
This episode tried to drive the plot forward, unfortunately it seems that it went into a cement wall.
I have been thinking long and hard as to what Iron Fist so far has been like and I think I may have finally come up with the most apt comparison.
This series is kind of like Step up 4.
In the Step Up series, 3 ended with this big dance battle spectacular that went all out. Trying to figure out where to go from there, they tried to make 4 a bit more low-key, relevant, and different (but still shoe-horning a battle somehow).
That’s exactly how I would describe this Iron Fist series.
This episode was so tonally all over the place, first there is this weird pseudo sexual tension between Danny and Colleen which they then play off as “haha, made you look.”
I was at first happy that Roasrio Dawson as Night Nurse had come into the series, and her introductory scene was real fun – but then they are like, “BE NURSE EXPOSITORY!” tainting her entire presence.
Also, the physicality of this show is so low, that Dawson’s kick practice was the most impressive thing to see on the screen – when Danny and Colleen ninja their way into the pier, it was such a sad exercise of two physically fit humans that it could have been filmed during a stunt double’s warm-up session.
Also, he did not “punch through” anything, he punched something and it buckled…ALSO FIST/HAND WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE GAO? If he said, “yeah, am sure it was his hands, not his fist,” would you be like, “oh then it’s not the guy I am thinking of, probably just Fat Cobra or something…”
Such terrible writing and story-telling, Marvel should be refunded on whatever they have spent on these behind-the-scenes people….
