Thwip! Watch is all about what goes on our screens, namely TV. Whether CW or Fox or NBC or what-have-you, you can be sure that we here at Thwip! have been watching it. Today we are going to talk about DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
This week’s episode was just pure comedy, tinged with greatness (and a very strange tragedy that I still have yet to process).
So Thawne, the Reverse-Flash who thought he could, finally succeeds in rewriting reality.
And boy is his version of reality a doozy.
The episode is funny on so many levels, besides the rewritten versions of the Legends themselves, Damian Dahrk and Malcolm Merlyn have fully embraced the cheesiness of their roles and are trying desperately to inhale entire swathes of the scenery with their over-the-top villainy.
Even Eobard Thawne, despite not being played by Tom Cavanagh (who is awesome), is getting his time to really shine, making up for his failure in the first season of The Flash.
The Legends also take their new roles perfectly, with me wishing for a Wayne’s World style movie based on Ray Palmer and Citizen Steel. Otherwise, this episode knows that it is lampshading all the goofiness of the entire series and just trying to see how far it can turn it on its head.
The best moment is the climactic fight, which is an homage to old-school slapstick comedy where an object keeps bouncing between people as they play keep away (also, the best is how Reverse-Flash basically continually has his ass handed to him during that entire sequence…his expression as he becomes fed up with the situation is priceless).
The episode is one of the strongest ones yet, heavily leaning on the comedy aspect of the show – though *that* twist in the end was kind of jarring, considering how dark it was in comparison to the rest of the episode.
Loved the episode, can’t wait for more.
Also, I need cake…
