Thwip! Watch is all about what goes on our screens, namely TV. Whether CW or Fox or NBC or what-have-you, you can be sure that we here at Thwip! have been watching it. Today we are going to talk about Arrow.
You know what, I have completely bought into the premise of this season thanks to this episode.
(Yes, I know this episode does have comic book insanity, but still it somehow gels all together to be a heartfelt, contemplative episode).
So all the things that Prometheus has set out to do to Oliver has culminated in this episode and it is actually well-executed. A time and tried method of making the hero feel guilty for failures, Oliver spends most of the episode being sad and morose and selling the idea that he believes he is an actual monster that gave birth to Prometheus (not literal birth, that would be weird, I meant ideological birth).
Stephen Amell really manages to sell the story, playing a morose and self-sacrificial Oliver Queen just right that you really start to fall into his despair as well.
The Russian storyline also comes to a head as well as Olly goes back to the Bratva one more time and we get to play with papa Anatoly (I like fatherly/brotherly/friendly KGBeast, is kind of nice to have a non-psychotic villain to deal with). That also felt pretty satisfactory as Oliver essentially irrevocably severs his ties with the Russian gangsters that he at one point protected.
This is a great beginning of a story arc for a series that is heading to the final episodes of the season, I am pretty much in it for the ride now!.
(Also, the fight scenes in this series still make me mad at how bad Iron Fist was, I am going to say it until I feel better about it).
