It’s Monday folks! Which means we talk about a favorite manga of ours and why you all should read it – this week’s Manga Monday is all about Tsutomo Nihei’s Biomega.
So I have an unabashed love for Tsutomo Nihei’s aesthetic, hence why I have gushed on his three major projects (Blame!, Snikt!, and now Biomega).
Biomega is the most coherent of his manga work I would say (I don’t count Snikt, because basically it is alternate universe Blame!), where our pasty faced, ulta-competent combatant has to save the world.
The situation is pretty straightforward, with the revelations coming along that ma keep sense in an insane manga way – especially for Nihei’s work, which is always chock full of grand ideas and genetic manipulation that ends up with some cool as hell monsters to fight.
Nihei’s classic gigantic rchitecture and sharp lines are back in play in this series, but it feels more accessible and less overwhelming (which was what Blame! was wont to do).
With a less crazy weird ambitious story and slightly smaller scale artwork, Biomega is Blame! for those who got lost that first time around.
With it being a quick, but beautiful read, definitely a manga you should take the time to check out…especially just to find out about what the heck is up with the gun-toting bear!
