Thwip!’s Manga Monday – Yu Yu Hakusho

It’s Monday folks! Which means we talk about a favorite manga of ours and why you all should read it – this week’s Manga Monday is all about Yu Yu Hakusho.

I know it is 2017 and this manga was made in the dinosaur ages (fine, the ’90s, whatever), but there is something to be said for a well done straight up shonen manga.

Thankfully Yu Yu Hakusho is one such manga.
As we follow main protagonist Yusuke Urameshi as he deals with being an “Underworld Detective”, you find yourself engrossed in a fairly simple story that hits all the right notes for a light summer’s romp (and look! Summer is upon us, go read outside kids). The characters are just likable enough and their enemies acrually get pretty interesting in a tournament kind of way (spoilers, there are a couple for tournaments in this series), but by the end of this pretty by the numbers series you feel satisfied with its completion.

When compared with Togashi’s follow up work, Hunter x Hunter, there is no comparison, HxH is a better story, but Yu Yu Hakusho has several things going for it – not as confusing, no large info-dumps, and it actually is finished!

Seriously Togashi, time to get HxH over and done with.
